Workshop 6 - 12.45pm
Sew Pretty: beginner’s embroidery onto knit and crochet
Tutor: Jeanette Sloan
Embroidering onto your knits looks impressive but needn’t be difficult and this workshop shows you how.
In just 90 minutes Jeanette will show you how the simplest embroidery techniques can be used to create eye catching motifs that can take the plainest knits to another level. Great for using up small amounts of stash yarn and a fun way to add another crafty skill to your creative tool kit.
All required materials will be supplied on the day but In preparation for the class you’ll need to do a bit of homework but it’s nothing horrendous, in fact you can dip into your stash, which is always good.
Using either an *Aran weight yarn on 4.50 mm needles or a *DK weight yarn on 3.50 mm needles, knit a 20 cm x 20 cm square of stocking stitch. You can use your preferred cast on and cast off and your favourite edge stitch techniques.
As we won’t be using embroidery hoops in the class, the aim is to produce a slightly dense fabric that you’ll be working directly onto with embroidery. The neat edges just make it look pretty.
*These needle sizes are given as a guide. If your tension tends to be very loose you’ll probably need an even smaller needle. Alternatively if you tend to knit tight, adjust your needle size accordingly. Remember the fabric should be slightly firm but not stiff."
Level: Beginner - No experience needed
