Workshop 5 - 12.30pm
Workshop 5 - Knit a Helical striped mug cozy
Tutor: Rachel Moutrie
Love the look of stripes that flow seamlessly into one another with no jog where the round meets? In this fun workshop, you'll learn the magic of helical stripe knitting, a deceptively easy technique, by making your own mug cosy.
You'll knit in the round using two colours at once, working them in a way that creates a smooth spiral of colour with no visible seam. It's a brilliant technique to have in your toolkit that is also useful for alternating skeins.
What you'll learn:
Casting on for small circumference knitting in the round
Working with two yarns at once without tangling
The helical stripe technique for seamless colour transitions
How to read your knitting to keep the pattern correct
You'll be knitting in the round throughout the session. Have a go at it before the day if you can, but don't worry if you haven't, I'll help you get started. Dpns will be provided to use during the workshop, but if you'd prefer to knit on your own circular needles or your own dpns, please bring them along.
By the end of the workshop you'll have a finished, ready-to-use mug cosy, plus the confidence to use helical stripes in your own future projects.
What you'll get:
Two 10g mini skeins of hand-dyed Crush DK, plenty for your cosy, with leftover yarn for a second
Use of dpns during the workshop (or bring your own circular/dpns if you prefer)
A printed pattern and helical stripe reference guide to take home
Knowledge required:
You should be confident with knit and purl stitches. Some experience of knitting in the round is helpful but not essential, if you're new to it, I'll help you get going.
